The Non Citizen Asian Population Of Uganda - 1375 Words

Imagine being given only 90 days to pick up your life and leave a place you call home. The Non-Citizen Asian population of Uganda was given only three months, ninety days to be precise, to leave the country. Later Asians who were Ugandan citizens were also expelled. Idi Amin’s reasoning for expelling 60,000 Asians from Uganda is still unclear. There are many theories put forth, but they remain mere speculation. As a result of Idi Amin’s erratic behavior, jingoism, and ruthlessness, Uganda’s economic ultimately suffered to this day from this act. In 1971, President Idi Amin demanded a review of Uganda’s Asian community citizenship. In August of 1972, he decreed that all Punjab Asians residing in Uganda must leave. They had always been the target of resentment in Uganda; once Amin came into power, he acted upon this tension. Many erratic announcements in the span of a few days targeted various groups. The first proclaimed, â€Å"All Asians holding Indian, Pakistan, and Bangladesh passports must leave.† Few took this announcement seriously until Amin signed the decreed. Many were astonished by this and did not want to believe it. This is because when Amin came to power, he made the working conditions better and many of the Asians who were in the business industry. Another announcement followed, adding, â€Å"All non-citizen Asians, even those holding Kenyan, and Tanzanian passports must leave. Again, many could not believe what was occurring. These announcements were life shattering, especially when it was apparent to both the Africans and Asian that Amin was serious. Next, came an announcement exempting professional Asians from explosion, this was received with trepidation. This last announcement drove a wedge between the Professional and non-professional Asian communities. The professionals o pted to leave voluntarily. There are many things, people don’t understand. One inquiring question is why teens smoke. There can be wishful thinking on the causes that maybe known to the teens themselves outside of the situation(s) that may start the causes. The most common and possible causes are Pressure amongst their peers, smoking availability, to promotion through industry advertisement, to the main causes of family situations, and possible negative influences. These are some of the possible reasons that cause teens to smoke before the legal age of 18 years old, and these causes can be the main factors in contributing to teenage smoking. Pressures of life and pressure from their peers is one of the most common influences that contribute to teens smoking or even†¦show more content†¦The piecing together in their environment gives their mind set a shift to see that if something is wrong, then it’s wrong not just for me but for everyone. Teens are very observant in their surroundings for the most part, and when they watch someone they look up to as a role model, they tend to be bigger influences because they want to be just like them, not grasping the fact that they are picking up a bad habit that they shouldn’t. Even celebrities in the media have a huge impact on teens, sad to say they know this and yet they still do reckless things, which influence them. Smoking availability is another crucial contributor to teens smoking, especially when parents allow their kids to smoke also giving them the cigarettes to smoke. Most times it starts when parents or relatives ask the teen to go to the gas station and pick some up for them and/or having someone older get a pack of cigarettes for them because of them being underage. It could even result in something as simple as sharing, if stores are strict on who they are buying them for definitely if the buyer doesn’t smoke or they never seen them purchase that item before. Negative influence is another contributor, but anything could be a negative influence. Lacrosse: The Beginning Essay Although lacrosse is not the most popular sport, it is considered to be Americas first sport. The sport of lacrosse is a combination of hockey, football, soccer, and basketball. Lacrosse is the oldest sport in North America dating all the way back to the 1400s. After it was brought upon by the North American Indians, the French christened it, and the Canadians helped raise it. It was first played by the Indians to settle their disputes. The early history of lacrosse shows that it was a game to get young men ready for war. Lacrosse games back then would last from sun up to sun down and could last up to 3 days. The Indian game was a tough, often brutal game. Sticks were used as clubs to strike opponents. A game could consist of a thousand players and spread over miles of rough terrain. Trees or rocks would be used to mark the goals. The object of the game was to score a goal by throwing the ball into a net, which was guarded by a goalie, and one rule that remains constant with any rules of lacrosse is that the ball cannot be touched by any of the players hands. It wasnt until the early 1800s that the French started to turn lacrosse into a more civilized game. It is Canadas national sport, and is also widely played in the northeastern United States. Players use sticks with a net at one end. The object of the game is to throw, scoop or kick a small rubber ball into the opposing teams goal. The French-Canadians called the head of the stick la crosse because it resembled a bishops cross. Then in 1877 New York University was the first school to establish a college lacrosse team. Today the game is played by over 500 Colleges and Universities and has become a Major League sport.

Which would have been expected due to the temperature increasing the permeability of the beetroot cell membrane allowing more pigment to pass through.The wider range of temperatures would have enabled us to pin point the temperature at which the cell membrane becomes denatured, which would of made the experiment more accurate, however this didnt affect our experiment a lot because we were investigating the effect of temperature on a cell membrane which can be clearly seen by our results. The reliability of our apparatus didnt affect us either because the result increase as we would of expected. The accuracy of our results could be tested against other groups or against other repeats.
